TAYNE'S DEBUT ALBUM 'LOVE' OUT NOW

TAYNE

Today marks the official unveiling of Love, the debut album from Dublin-born, London-based industrial noise pop trio TAYNE, out now on Inside Job/MNRK.

Soundtracked by a raging hybrid of metal, industrial, shoegaze, and pop, Love wrestles with the classic definition of the word, exploring how we navigate the clashes that emerge through its pursuit. With its ten tracks, TAYNE mastermind Matt Sutton documents his ideas of love as conflict, sacrifice, and compromise, how emotional attachment leads to clashes and how the repercussions can ripple down through generations. What does love cost? How far are we willing to go to chase it?

“The contrast of genres is interesting to me,” Sutton notes. “I still love extreme metal and heavy bands, but I think there's something a little bit more exciting when you're trying to create something that isn't what everyone else is doing.”

Love features the tracks “Fear,” the band’s stadium anthem with a guest appearance from Rolo Tomassi’s James Spence, “In this Trend,” an industrial dancefloor stomper which wouldn’t sound amiss at the legendary Berlin nightclub Berghain, and “Wasted,” which finds TAYNE at their most aggressive, mechanical, and violent in the vein of Ministry or Fear Factory whilst attempting to find serenity in chaos. "‘Wasted’ is purely about lust,” says Sutton. “Getting caught up in those feelings, mistaking them for something else, and then undressing that to reveal the mess it has created."

Love was co-produced by TAYNE and longtime collaborator Wayne Adams (Green Lung, Petbrick), one of a number of collaborations with artists as diverse as Jesu, Mastiff, Katie Kim, and Poisonous Birds. Additionally, TAYNE has supported the varied likes of HEALTH, Author & Punisher, and The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Greg Puciato.

“There's definitely a defeated attitude in most of the songs,” Sutton says. “I was intimidated by intimacy, afraid of being vulnerable and putting myself out there.” Sound tracked by a raging hybrid of metal, industrial, shoegaze, and pop, Love wrestles with the classic definition of the word, exploring how we navigate the clashes that emerge through its pursuit.

Whilst the lyrical themes of Love predominantly stem from Sutton’s own experiences, there was also a subconscious through-line that resonated closer to home. A child of divorce, Sutton’s parents separated, which it was later revealed was due to his Dad being a gay man. “When he told me that, I could contextualize it,” Sutton says of the separation today, “and instantly there were no harsh feelings. I think realizing that at a young age opened my mind to being an accepting person, understanding life isn’t black and white.”

In advance of the record’s release, today the band reveals latest single and its accompanying video, “Scars.”

“Scars” splices together Lady Gaga pop with a Terminator 2: Judgment Day-inspired percussive thud of destruction. “Thematically revealing, honest, and being open,” explains Sutton, “‘Scars’ is about allowing yourself to be vulnerable, showing your intimacy and not letting your baggage drag you down.”

“Scars” was co-produced by TAYNE and longtime collaborator Wayne Adams (Green Lung, Petbrick), one of a number of collaborations with artists as diverse as Jesu, Mastiff, Katie Kim, and Poisonous Birds. Additionally, TAYNE has supported the varied likes of HEALTH, Author & Punisher, and The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Greg Puciato.
